Rural Drinking Water & Sanitation Initiative
Our unique operating model leverages partnerships with government institutions, civil society, and private sector stakeholders to achieve scalable impact. We exists to ensure that no one is left behind in accessing clean water, improved sanitation, and hygiene, creating a healthier, equitable, and more sustainable future for all.
Our work leverages demonstration models, community-level advocacy, and collaboration with government bodies to scale impactful solutions and expand sustainable Water, sanitation and Hygiene services. With operations spanning 5 states, 20 districts, 245 villages and four towns/cities, Sunaina reached over 120000 individuals through our Program.
We organize more than 200 Awareness Camp & Program for Rural Drinking Water & Sanitation So Far.
Did you start your day by taking a shower, followed by enjoying a warm cup of tea, perhaps? Was it possible for you to clean your breakfast bowl, use the toilet, and wash your hands, preparing yourself for the day ahead?
We rely heavily on clean water, proper sanitation, and effective hygiene in our daily routines to ensure cleanliness, comfort, and good health.
In the absence of safe and assured drinking water in the household, individuals, often women and girls, are compelled to undertake long journeys to fetch and consume contaminated water, adversely affecting their health, education, and livelihoods. The exacerbating effects of climate change also pose an additional threat, placing already fragile water supplies at an increased risk of complete depletion.
The interconnectedness of clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene might not be immediately apparent. Yet, without proper sanitation, water sources are susceptible to contamination, and without clean water, maintaining essential hygiene practices to prevent the spread of disease becomes impossible. Our core areas of works are
Safely-managed sanitation: For the life-changing impacts of clean water and good hygiene to be delivered, decent toilets must be normal for everyone, everywhere.
Clean water: We aims for long-lasting solutions to make clean water accessible for everyone, everywhere.
Good hygiene: Cultivating healthy hygiene habits, coupled with clean water and sanitation, may not seem obvious but can profoundly transform and preserve lives.
Safe Drinking Water
As part of our various Water Schemes for rural communities, we install electric and solar-powered water pumps, water storage tanks and pipeline networks to ensure a steady supply of water around the year. We clean and maintain these facilities to ensure safe drinking water and educate the people in hygiene practices. We also try and solve the rural water crisis during the summer by providing many drought-facing villages and fishing communities with water tankers.
Sanitation
As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure proper sanitation facilities in rural areas, we provide individual, solar-illuminated toilets with soak pits built by local labour, thereby ensuring employment opportunities through this initiative. We have developed infrastructural facilities at 12 schools in the Gorakhpur and Kushinagar districts and successfully transformed 10 villages in Uttar Pradesh into Open Defecation Free zones.
Our commitment extends beyond short-term solutions. Collaborating with government agencies, supporters, and local communities, we seek sustainable answers that empower people to transform their lives permanently. Will you join us in making a lasting impact?
